Meanwhile, in Shawnee, they're literally telling the people what's best for them. The fact that they're dictating how the land may be used (although OWNED by the city, it's MAINTAINED by the community) without neighborhood feedback is pretty sick. It's the most condescending thing I've ever seen.

Also, the fact they're shoving a Wal-Mart down West Louisville's throat - without any transparency - meanwhile losing their minds at the possibility of a Dollar General being built in Phoenix Hill (NuLu) is definitely hypocritical. Now NuLu is seeking to become a preservation district that rejects any chain store that would de-value the property in the area... yet Shawnee and Russell (waaay older than Phoenix Hill and Butchertown) are being forced to accept a low-wage, anti-union supercenter on the city's terms. Makes me absolutely sick.

This was just released a few days ago. http://insiderlouisville.com/news/2014/03/12/nulu-3/

Fischer has go to go. Sadly, he's running unopposed in the Democratic primary. We need better, YOUNGER, leadership. And we need it soon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707026140839237062.post-51699946568587993052013-04-25T15:37:37.510-04:002013-04-25T15:37:37.510-04:00I'm really would like for the community as a w...I'm really would like for the community as a whole to prosper from this 30 acres and would love for it to be a place we (residents of West Louisville) could use daily without having to travel 10-20 miles. One of my recommendations is that west louisville residents crowd fund dollars to form a community trust to revitalize property and push their own strategic economic development agenda forward with or without the city. I mentioned this post to Growing Louisville-Green (a meetup group that is politically active in the green/sutainable movement here in Lou). They would like to get involved. I directed them here.

Also, I second Brian Tucker.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10788740577135090145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707026140839237062.post-89044871171846845262013-03-15T10:52:23.988-04:002013-03-15T10:52:23.988-04:00Neighborhood councils should be established that r...Neighborhood councils should be established that replace the 26 member council. Too many areas get overlooked and the gov't is tone deaf to the concerns of the average Louisvillian. As it stands now, we have 26 people who decide what is best for 700,000 people in gerrymandered districts. Neighborhood boundaries rarely change, if ever. Each hood should have street level representation made up of actual residents. The people living in and around this 30 acre project should ultimately have the final say in what happens there. Not some aloof mayor who depends on fellow east enders to advise him. Why not start a petition on-line and get the attention of the world. Perhaps we could purchase the land ourselves with the help of some of the wealthiest. Im sure we could bring pressure on the city to change its stance. Good Luck. Carol CummingsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
